
The Fourth of July is a time for celebrating with festive gatherings, cookouts, and bright fireworks . However, for our four legged friends it can be a source of extreme fear and anxiety. Pets get frightened by loud noises and bright lights creating some to panic and potentially escape or injure themselves.
To help ensure your pets have a safe and stress-free Fourth of July, here are 10 important and helpful tips:
- Keep Pets Indoors: The safest place for your pets during Fourth of July celebrations is inside your home, where they feel most secure. Bring them in before the loud noises begin to help them not to be so anxious.
- Create a Cozy, calm and peaceful space for them to retreat: Designate a room or area in your home as a “safe space” for your pet, with familiar bedding, toys, and calming music or white noise to drown out external sounds that may cause fear or anxiety for them.
- Use Anxiety-Reducing Aids: Consider calming supplements, thundershirts, or pheromone diffusers to help your pet’s nerves during and before these major noise occurances.
